Western Technical College's Automotive programs prepare students for a career in the automotive servicing industry as an apprentice light or heavy vehicle mechanic.
Programs cover practical skills and required theory for the servicing operations of brakes, steering, suspension, engines, transmissions, batteries and wheel and tyre repair.
The program also provides an introduction to other automotive industry trades including:
- paint and panel;
- auto-electrical;
- parts interpretation;
- outdoor power equipment; and
- small motors.
This qualification is designed to prepare individuals to seek a career in an automotive service or repair business. This course delivers a broad range of competencies, relating to identifying and inspecting mechanical and electrical components and systems of light vehicles. The potential for apprenticeships and traineeships outcomes is high in this industry that is identified as having a skills shortage.
