What is a School-Based Apprenticeship (SBA)
Ever wondered how you can get a head start on your career while still at school? A School-Based Apprenticeship (SBA) lets you do exactly that!
Imagine working towards a nationally recognised qualification and gaining real-world job experience – all while completing your SACE (or equivalent) at your home school. It's the best of both worlds!
Here's how it works: you'll spend some of your week working for an employer, getting hands-on training in a real workplace, and earning a wage. The rest of your time is spent at school, keeping up with your studies, and at a training provider like Western Technical College, where you'll complete the theoretical and practical components of your chosen qualification.
SBAs are a fantastic way to:
- Gain industry experience early
- Earn money while you learn
- Complete a qualification for your future career
- Get a head start on your chosen trade or profession
- Build your resume and professional network
It's a smart path for highly motivated students who are ready to dive into a career and get practical skills. Ready to explore if an SBA is right for you? Talk to your VET Coordinator or career counsellor at school or connect with us at Western Technical College to learn more!
